Submission Guidelines for Black Lawyers Journal

Dear Contributors,


Thank you for considering the Black Lawyers Journal as a platform for your ideas. To ensure the quality and integrity of our publication, we have established the following guidelines. Please review them carefully before submitting your work.


Submission Deadline:

While we welcome submissions at any time as we operate on a rolling basis, please note that to be considered for October publication, submissions must be received prior to 15th September. We encourage early submissions to allow for thorough review and preparation for publication.


Submission Length:

All submissions should be a minimum of 1000 words (excl footnotes) to ensure depth and thorough exploration of topics.

Citation Style: OSCOLA

All submissions must adhere to the OSCOLA referencing style. Detailed guidelines can be found in the official OSCOLA guide.


Submission Process:

Before submitting your article, please complete our Google Form, which serves as a pre-submission questionnaire. The form requires the following information:

1. Author Bio: Provide a brief biography introducing yourself.

2. Description of the article

Upon completing the form, please email your submission to blacklawyersjournalsubs@gmail.com with the subject line indicating your submission category (e.g., "Article Submission").

Please ensure that your submission is in Microsoft Word format with the title of the article as the title of the document.

Review Process:

Upon receipt of your submission, our editorial team will initially review it to ensure it is error-free, fits the theme of the journal, and maintains a clear and coherent writing style. If revisions are necessary, our editorial team will communicate this with you and work with you to make the necessary adjustments.

Once the article meets our standards, it will be sent to our review board. The review board will ensure the accuracy of the content and provide any further feedback if needed.

Decision on Publication:

The Black Lawyers Journal promptly acknowledges the receipt of submissions. A decision on the publishability of the article shall be communicated within due time. All submissions made to Black Lawyers Journal are reviewed by our editorial team and review board to ensure quality and accuracy. Submissions may be accepted or rejected based solely on the discretion of the Editorial team. Relaxation of any rules regarding submissions is subject to the discretion of the Editorial team..


Style Guidelines:


Submissions must be in electronic form, word-processed, double-spaced in Times New Roman and font size 12. The sub-headings should be uniformly numbered in roman numerals. The prescribed word limits do not include footnotes.

Before submitting any text, concepts, ideas, images, photographs, or other materials ("Submission") to the Black Lawyers Journal, you are required to read and agree to this Submission Disclaimer and guidelines as mentioned below ("Submission Disclaimer").


You acknowledge, understand, and agree that Black Lawyers Journal is under no obligation whatsoever to review, consider, publish, develop, or otherwise use your Submission.


Submission Disclaimer:


You represent that you have read, understood, and shall follow these submission guidelines. You understand, acknowledge, and agree that upon your submission to Black Lawyers Journal, the Submission becomes the property of Black Lawyers Journal. Black Lawyers Journal shall not have any obligation to return or account for any Submission you make to its platform if you no longer wish to publish it, and Black Lawyers Journal is not under any obligation to provide you with any compensation for the Submission or the use of your Submission.

You represent that the Submission made by you is your original work, there are no adverse claims in, or to, the Submission, and the Submission does not violate any copyright, patent (including design patent), trademark, trade name, or the rights of any third party, and is not otherwise unlawful. You further acknowledge that due disclosure has been made to Black Lawyers Journal if your Submission has been published elsewhere or is submitted for consideration elsewhere. Black Lawyers Journal would have no liability in case there is a dispute arising out of such parallel submission of the manuscript.

You acknowledge, understand, and agree that: (a) there does not now exist, nor has there existed in the past, nor will there exist in the future, a fiduciary or confidential relationship between you and Black Lawyers Journal; (b) you are making this submission on a voluntary basis; and (c) you have not agreed to this Submission Disclaimer in reliance upon any representation or promise, whether written or oral, which goes beyond what has been stated explicitly in this disclaimer.


By making your Submission, you acknowledge and agree to be bound by this Submission Disclaimer and guidelines. In order to make a submission to Black Lawyers Journal, you are required to consent to be so bound which will be inferred as soon as Black Lawyers Journal receives your Submission.

We reserve the right to make changes to this Submission Disclaimer at any time, with or without providing reasoning for the same. Any changes or modifications will be effective immediately upon posting the updated Submission Disclaimer on the Black Lawyers Journal website, and you waive the right to receive specific notice of each such change or modification.



Submission Acknowledgment:


In the email submission, please include a clear acknowledgement that the submission guidelines have been met and that you have read and accepted the disclaimer within the submission guidelines.
